The region has 100,000 inhabitants spread across three sub-territories called MRCs (Regional County Municipalities). Ours is the Lac-Saint-Jean Est MRC, home to 53,067 residents. The city of Alma accounts for more than half of this number; the thirteen other municipalities share the remaining population, ranging from 5,000 to fewer than 1,000 inhabitants.

The Lac Saint-Jean Est RCM is a major hub for agricultural and agri-food development. With its 98,779 hectares of agricultural land, agriculture is central to the dynamic and sustainable use of the territory. It is home to several agri-food processors, primarily operating in the meat and charcuterie, beverage, bakery, fruit and vegetable, and dairy sectors.

Tourism

The tourism industry is one of the main drivers of economic development in Quebec and its regions. Tourism is a sector encompassing 29,500 businesses and 416,000 jobs. Through its tourism division, operated by Tourisme Alma Lac-Saint-Jean, Développement Économique Alma Lac-Saint-Jean works to stimulate tourism businesses in the Lac-Saint-Jean-Est RCM (Regional County Municipality) to achieve a high-quality experience within a framework of sustainable tourism.
